Restoration and Collaboration

Battlefield Restoration

I’m working on a collection of oil paintings. This was inspired by Battlefield Restoration when I was asked to display some paintings in the window over Christmas. I really love his windows for display. The joy is that, especially when I had to keep the shutters down in the shop I ran on Pollokshaws road - I love the idea of my work being on display after the shop closes. It’s the best gallery you can get.

With that in mind I had the idea of viewers peeking through the window to see what’s in display. I then thought on the idea of restoration. When we talked in a collaborative way we both thought of how we could merge my signature theme of Glasgow architecture and restoration. We started at the idea of buildings at risk that are in need of saving and ended with this collection of buildings that are in the process of saving.

I have choosen to paint Glasgow buildings that have a theme of restoration. This selection have either been restored or are in the the process of restoration, peeking through the building hoarding. I have used my new found love of painting trees as as a symbol of regrowth. This use of nature also represents the real strength of reusing and restoring. This is the core value of Battlefield Restoration and is a very green sustainable value.

Currently on display at Battlefields Restoration is paintings featuring  Govanhill Baths, Scotland Street School, Pollok Park Stables, West Boathouse, Springburn winter gardens and People Palace winter gardens,

These paintings will be available for view and sale in Battlefield Restoration theoughout December.

Govanhill Baths Community Trust are celebrating a significant step forward in the refurbishment of the iconic Baths but despite the completion of all of the external renovation work, more funding is needed to reopen the Baths. The 22 year struggle continues! They currently have a shortfall of £6.5 million to bring the project to completion.

The West Boathouse project has repaired and adapted this beautiful category B-listed building to improve accessibility, upgrade facilities and provide flexible, multi-use spaces. The project also aims to change how the boathouse is used and who it is used by – embracing new audiences and encouraging people to re-engage with the River Clyde.
