Start 2026 with a creative bang and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of gouache. This 5-week Nature Edition course is a joyful, exploratory journey suitable for complete beginners through to art-school graduates looking to reignite their practice.
Across the five weeks, we’ll explore how four extraordinary artists draw inspiration from nature in radically different ways. From Bridget Riley’s graphic shapes and optical illusions, to Helen Frankenthaler’s sweeping abstract canvases, we’ll look at how nature informs style, colour, and expression. We’ll also return to Van Gogh, this time through the lens of his delicate watercolours, discovering yet another perspective on his connection to the natural world.
You’ll learn:
- How to use gouache in a range of styles—from crisp, opaque graphic techniques to loose, expressive washes
- Foundations of colour theory to help you confidently mix, layer, and experiment
- Playful approaches to mark-making and composition
- How to develop your own creative voice through guided discovery, experimentation, and play
This class is all about enjoyment, curiosity, and growth. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking for fresh inspiration, The Artroom offers a warm and welcoming space for everyone.
