On the afternoon of Saturday 25th July, Pidgin Perfect organised the ‘Barras Banchetto’; an event specially commissioned by the Merchant City Festival 2015 and VELOCITY - a cultural response to the legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

‘Barras Banchetto’ was an outdoor theatrical dining experience which invited participants to enjoy a free lunch and discuss the ongoing regeneration of the Barras Calton. Over a specially curated three course lunch, fifty invited guests, will be invited to explore the impact of the ongoing regeneration of the Barras Market on local traders, nearby residents and the arts and cultural communities of Glasgow. Food was provided by local businesses and paired with designs from local artists. Loch Fyne Shellfish Cafe who collaborated with Libby Walker, The Pantry Cafe who collaborated with Rosemary Cunningham and Kevin Andrew Morris who collaborated with Glickman’s Confectionary.

A public audience observed and engaged with the process, creating a dialogue with the community which extended beyond the dining table. This was an important discussion about the perceptions and impact of ongoing regeneration and most importantly how the newly forming community can work together to retain the unique history and heritage of the Barras Market and the Calton.
