I had spotted Gillians work on her JUJU Books instagram. She works from her East end studio, working with creatives, artist and booklovers to create stunning books. Making all items by hand using traditional and contemporary techniques, with skills learned from master bookbinders across Europe.
It was the blended paper edges that really caught my eye. I asked her if we could collaborate and create something extra special, I wanted to make the most of these high crafted handbound books. We ended up with an edition of 25 large and small. Totally unique and totally designed and made in Glasgow.
I had created the Southside Coffee Shops print. So many people commented on how they wanted to tick off all the coffee shops featured. I spend time in coffee shops for meetings, focused thinking and sketching, all times for a sketchbook.
I created a repeatable print and sent it off to Glasgow School of Art for printing. Gillian then used this to cover the book.
I could choose ribbon colours too, I wanted two and matched them with the edge painting. The paper we chose was perfect for drawing and sketching ,120 blank pages of premium UK milled paper.
Making the most of all bespoke elements I asked for Gold leaf letterpressing on the cover, COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE
This is a progress snap, edges painted with the perfect blend of yellow and teal!
