“Sense of Place | Abstract Landscape Painting with Orla Stevens

Workshop Dates:

8th & 9th March 2025

Workshop Description:

Join artist Orla Stevens in a two-day abstract landscape workshop, exploring landscapes from both visual and emotional references, through mixed media processes.

The aim of these two days is to make time and space for creative play, experimentation, and to share ideas, processes and techniques that help you find:

  • ways to explore abstraction
  • ways to bring more personal connection and self expression to your art
  • ways to be more playful, improvise, feel loose and free in your painting
  • confidence to play and experiment with a wide range of materials
  • ways to reflect your experiences of nature and landscape
  • develop your own creative voice

The focus of these two-day workshops is on painting loosely, exploring new processes and creative play over creating final resolved paintings.

The ideas we explore together are to help you find freedom and personal expression in your art, and to help explore your own creative voice and connections to nature and landscape. This workshop is for you if you’re looking for ways to paint loosely and expressively.

The workshop is open to all stages of artist, from complete beginner and up.

Limited to 6 places per day

Workshop times: 10 - 4pm (lunch break 1 - 2pm

One day ticket: £110

Full Weekend ticket: £200

Day one takes inspiration from visual references: Exploring how to abstract a landscape through play. We will be working from personal reference imagery, memories and sketches to create paintings and drawings that directly reference landscape.

Day two will focus on the emotive side of landscape: painting how places feel, by focusing on our own inner worlds - working from personal experience, memory, words and emotion to translate through mark, texture, line and colour.

In the afternoon of day 2 we will get the chance to combine these ideas explored across 2 days in a painting, to blend seen and felt responses of landscape and inner worlds together.
