All materials provided - set of acrylic paints, brushes, canvas and more. Your art oack of materials is yours to keep. Giving you the materials to continue at home.  

Spend your Wednesday evenings painting, playing, learning and igniting fun in the process of painting. Using reference images from magazines and your own photographes, this weekend will leave you with the inspiration and materials to have more art in your life. 

Designed for beginners and artists wanting to begin or reignite their creative spark, this guided course focuses on process, experimentation, and the joy of making rather than producing polished finished pieces. 

We will look closely at how artists work from photography, memory, observation, colour and abstraction - developing confidence through playful, practical making and art historical insight.

Scottish Contemporary Figurative Painting
Frances Lucie McGurn & Caroline Walker

We shall start with two contemporary Scottish painters whose work draws from photography, interiors, figures and everyday life. From the bold confident fast mark making of McGurn to the considered narrative and composition of Walker. 

Through guided exercises, you will experiment with quick sketches, layering, colour and mark making. Learning how photographs can become expressive painted works.

Then we will move from image and memory into colour and abstraction.

Inspired by Scottish artist Peter Doig and Frank Bowling, we will explore atmosphere, layered surfaces, expressive colour and freer approaches to painting, allowing process and material to guide the work.

You will build a collection of studies, sketches and exploratory works — creating a personal visual library and discovering new ways of working. This will be the foundation for the 5th class where you become the artistic inspiration.
